ATRA Board Chairman Shergul and the President of Walters and Associates, Charles Walters, finalize the contract for 3G and WiMAX Spectrum Valuation Consultancy Services during a kick-off meeting on January 17, 2011. This is an important step for assessing the readiness of Afghanistan’s telecom market for the introduction of new technologies.

MCIT, ATRA Make Progress in Efforts to Introduce New Telecom Technologies to Afghanistan:

On January 17 and 18, Minister Sangin, Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), ATRA Board members, and Walters and Associates held their project kick-off meetings for the 3G and WiMAX Spectrum Valuation Consultancy Advisory Services. The project will produce an assessment of the Afghanistan telecom sector readiness for 3G and WiMAX services, as well as provide recommended spectrum auction strategies.

The meeting began with a contract signing ceremony with Mr. Walters, President of Walters and Associates, Inc. and ATRA Board Chairman Shergul. Subsequently, Mr. Walters was welcomed to Kabul by Minister Sangin, who expressed his appreciation for the firm’s willingness to come to Kabul to perform this important consultancy. Following a three month assessment, Walters and Associates will produce a report including comprehensive strategic guidance for Minister Sangin and the Ministerial Committee for the introduction of 3G and WiMAX technologies to the Afghanistan telecom market.
